Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Monitor Keys does not collect, store or share any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking and no crash reporting.

Monitor Keys is a free macOS app made by Fly-by-wire AB (“we”, “us”), a company registered in Sweden. This policy explains what the app does on your Mac and the one thing it asks the internet.

2. What stays on your Mac

• Your volume settings: the level and mute state you choose for each audio device, saved in the app’s preferences on your Mac.
• Audio: to set the volume of a monitor that has no volume control of its own, the app plays the sound going to that monitor back at the level you choose, and only while that level is below full. This happens in memory, in real time, and macOS shows its System Audio Recording indicator while it does. Audio is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
• Key presses: the app watches for the volume and brightness keys. Every other key press passes straight through, and none are recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
• Monitor brightness: the app reads and sets your monitor’s brightness over the display cable. Nothing about your monitor leaves your Mac.

We have no access to any of this.

3. The update check

When it starts and every six hours after that, Monitor Keys downloads a public list of released versions from our release server. It downloads a new version only when you choose to install one. These requests carry no account, no identifier and nothing about how you use the app. Like any web request from a Mac app, they reveal your IP address and standard technical details such as the app and macOS version.

4. Permissions

macOS asks you to allow two permissions. The app uses them only as described above:

• Accessibility, to receive the volume and brightness keys.
• System Audio Recording, to play the sound going to your monitor at the level you set.

You can turn either off at any time in System Settings under Privacy & Security.

5. Sharing

We do not have any of your data, so there is nothing to sell, share or hand over.

6. Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete. If you have a question, email support@flybywire.se. EU and EEA residents can also contact their data protection authority; in Sweden that is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (https://www.imy.se).

7. Changes and contact
